How do I get to Antigua?
V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU) receives direct flights from the US (Miami, New York, Atlanta), UK (London Gatwick), Canada (Toronto) and several Caribbean islands. Major airlines include British Airways, American Airlines, JetBlue, Caribbean Airlines and LIAT.
What documents do I need?
A valid passport (with at least 6 months remaining), a return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation. Some nationalities may need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).
Is there a departure tax?
Yes — the Antigua & Barbuda Hospitality Tourism Levy (HTL) of $50 USD per person is typically included in your airline ticket price. Confirm with your airline.

What currency is used in Antigua & Barbuda?
The official currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD/EC$), pegged to the USD at EC$2.70 = US$1. US dollars are widely accepted across the islands.
Are credit cards accepted?
Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, and most shops. American Express is less common. It's always good to carry some cash for smaller vendors, taxis, and beach bars.
Where can I find ATMs?
ATMs are available at the airport, in St. John's, English Harbour, and at major hotel areas. They dispense EC dollars, and some also offer US dollars.

What is the average temperature?
Temperatures range from 24°C (75°F) in winter to 30°C (86°F) in summer. Sea temperatures stay between 26-29°C (79-84°F) year-round — perfect for swimming.
Is Antigua affected by hurricanes?
Hurricane season runs June through November. Antigua is less frequently hit than other Caribbean islands, but it's wise to have travel insurance and check forecasts during this period.
Getting Around
How do I get around the island?
Options include rental cars (most popular), taxis, local buses, and organized tours. Driving is on the left side. A temporary local driving permit (US$20) is required for car rentals.
How much do taxis cost?
Taxi fares are government-regulated. Airport to St. John's is about US$15, to English Harbour US$35, to Jolly Beach US$25. Always confirm the fare before starting your journey.
Is there public transportation?
Local buses run between St. John's and main towns for EC$2.50-$3.50 per ride. They're an authentic local experience but don't cover all tourist areas and have limited evening service.

Is the water safe to drink?
Tap water in Antigua comes from a desalination plant and is generally safe. However, most visitors prefer bottled water which is widely available at shops and supermarkets.
